My 2 Cents on Day Trading, Especially The First 30 Minutes

July 31, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Key Learnings, Stocks No Comments →

Current YTD Performance: +$1565

Holy CRAP.  My life has been pretty damn super crazy this past few weeks.  Never ending bombs of deadlines, ever changing direction, and never ending adhoc analysis @ work haunted me for days forcing me to work 60+ hrs a week.  If that wasn’t enough, my ever exciting personal life kept me away from this keyboard for days.  I must say though, life is pretty good.

I shall see tomorrow if my life continues to get better with the investment decision I made today on Master Card (MA) and Visa (V).  I will explain more later… (more…)

Current YTD Performance: $-2193

Dow has been declining fast and steady in the past week with the exception of today. THANK YOU for giving us despaired some hope for the future of this country. A surge of more than 270 points in Dow Avg? God we sure haven’t seen that in a lonnnng ass time.

For all of you readers out there that are in the panic mode, here’s a great article to read about the speech made by Warren Buffet, the richest man in the world and arguably the best investors to have ever lived.

Rock Bottom Stocks For The Win

July 08, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Stocks No Comments →

Current YTD Performance: -$1538

The Dow Jones gained over 150 points today based on additional decline in the oil price topped with stronger U.S. Dollars. On top of that, Alcoa (AA), kicking off the start of Q2 earning reports this month topped the analyst expectations after close today. AWESOME NEWS! I’m pretty confident that the stocks will rally once again tomorrow at least for a short while.

As I look at the damaged market, I have been researching some stocks that could potentially be a big time bargain buy if you aim for a long-term gain: (more…)

Cheap Investing During Bear Investing Times

July 07, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Sites No Comments →

Current YTD Performance: -$2063

This morning when the market opened, my portfolio soared by $700 in value. I was jumping in joy as I got ready for work swearing that today will be an awesome day. Then during lunch, I took a peak into my account slightly hoping my portfolio was up even further….then the atomic bomb went off in my office. I found out that the bears came back once again and nailed me in the a**, taking the value down by a whopping $400!

Dow went down 57 points today once again proving that the bears are winning the battle. Amid this downfall, I found a cool investing website via an ad displayed on my taxi’s side door that should give us some hope in this depressing market. (more…)

Bio-Tech Stocks You Don’t Wanna Miss - Part I

July 02, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Books, Stocks No Comments →

Current YTD Retuen: -$1623

Biotechnology stocks are typically intimidated by investors due to its nature of vulnerability around the drugs the companies produce. With the exception of well known behemoth companies like Amgen (AMGN) and Genentech (DNA) , many biotech companies can plummet in value if one of their main drugs fail to go through. Having worked for a pharmaceutical company before (McNeil - one of Johnson and Johnson’s companies), I know how tough it can be to get a drug approved by FDA, not to mention the risk of side effects harming the company’s reputation (e.g. Merck (MRK) and its drug Vioxx back in 2004). I signed up to a cool site called Covestor where you can link your brokerage account and track your performance real time. Other members have access to everyone’s profile and his/her portfolio. The site also ranks the users by performance, so you can easily see who’s doing well and who’s doing not. The best part is, you can track their portfolio real time so you can follow these successful investors and potentially make money w/ them. (more…)

Inflation Explained

June 30, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Others, Stocks 2 Comments →

Current YTD Performance: -$1880

Most of you already know what inflation is and some of the contributing factors behind it. Since I was once clueless as to what inflation truly was, I figured I’d write about it and its impact in today’s world.

What is it :
A concept in which your currency’s buying power decreases and results in value of your money declining as a result in the increase of the cost of general goods such as oil, food, and service. $1 today is worth much less than $1 in 5 yrs. (more…)

Hot IPOs: VISA (V) Repeat?

June 25, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Stocks 3 Comments →

Current YTD Return: $-1863

DAMN…I’ve been super busy..working 14 hr days for the last few days…had absolutely no energy to do sh*t…and if that wasn’t a beating enough my stocks got jabbed and jabbed and knocked out all the way down to -$2300 in YTD performance. I had great Italian at a great restaurant with 3 girls last night…a dream come true. Yet I never really enjoyed the food. All I kept thinking was “man my ass just ‘lost’ $3300 this month from my positive $1300 YTD return. I should be eating Taco Bell right now.”

Anyway, here are some of the supposedly hot IPOs (Initial Public Offering) that’s coming up. If they do as well as Visa (V) did, you’re looking at a hefty return. Visa (V) IPOed back in March at around $55 and now it’s been hovering around $83 per share. (more…)
