Inflation Explained

June 30, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Others, Stocks 2 Comments →

Current YTD Performance: -$1880

Most of you already know what inflation is and some of the contributing factors behind it. Since I was once clueless as to what inflation truly was, I figured I’d write about it and its impact in today’s world.

What is it :
A concept in which your currency’s buying power decreases and results in value of your money declining as a result in the increase of the cost of general goods such as oil, food, and service. $1 today is worth much less than $1 in 5 yrs. (more…)

Wish I Could Feed The Bull

June 28, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Personal, Sites 1 Comment →

Current YTD Return: $-2211

I recently came across a cool site through MyBlogLog called Feed The Bull. It’s a site similar to the concept of Digg where users can submit and vote on investing related articles. Users can also be granted points by submitting articles and voting for other sites. If you’re one of the determined, you can make it to top of the “user ranking” page. (more…)

Hot IPOs: VISA (V) Repeat?

June 25, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Stocks 3 Comments →

Current YTD Return: $-1863

DAMN…I’ve been super busy..working 14 hr days for the last few days…had absolutely no energy to do sh*t…and if that wasn’t a beating enough my stocks got jabbed and jabbed and knocked out all the way down to -$2300 in YTD performance. I had great Italian at a great restaurant with 3 girls last night…a dream come true. Yet I never really enjoyed the food. All I kept thinking was “man my ass just ‘lost’ $3300 this month from my positive $1300 YTD return. I should be eating Taco Bell right now.”

Anyway, here are some of the supposedly hot IPOs (Initial Public Offering) that’s coming up. If they do as well as Visa (V) did, you’re looking at a hefty return. Visa (V) IPOed back in March at around $55 and now it’s been hovering around $83 per share. (more…)

Honda (HMC) Over Toyota (TM)?

June 20, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Informative, Stocks 2 Comments →

Current YTD Return: $-1192

I recently found out that Honda (HMC) debuts its first hydrogen-powered car in South Carolina in the next few months. Named the FCX Clarity, its hydrogen and electricity powered car will be three times as more efficient as the standard gas-powered vehicles. And the price? Not too shabby. Only $600/mo for a three year lease. Shit I’d pay that to save anything on gas which is above $5 now in California. (more…)

I Am An Idiot

June 17, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Personal 2 Comments →

Current YTD Return: -$973

Yes…once again I proved myself I suck at timing the market (which people have already told me I can’t do). I sold my DRYS stock after tanking $15+ thinking it will start to go down. When I sold it, it was on a downward trend. Only, it came right back to +$2 by end of the day yesterday (it actually did go negative one point of the day). Guess what? It went up by $5.55 per share which would have given me additional $555 in gains…Please..if anyone is reading this tell me I’m just an idiot…cause I am. (more…)

Investing In Oil Crisis

June 17, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Informative, Stocks 1 Comment →

Current YTD Return: -$1068
Oil hit a new record high AGAIN at $139 today before it dropped down a bit. Analysts say it will go up to $150 by this coming Monday. Despite the fact that OPEC will be pumping out more gas than now, the rate cannot keep up with the rate in which the demand is going up. (more…)

My Three Investments Explained

June 15, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Informative, Stocks 1 Comment →

Current YTD Return: -$1160

Since I never really explained my thought processes on why I own the three stocks I own now, I figured I’d explain them on this post. After all, this is an investing blog right? Many of you think I’m a dumbass for owning three stocks that correlate heavily on the oil price, which keeps hitting all time high weekly. You may be right, but here are the reasons why I bought them at the price I did: (more…)

Is Patience A Virtue In Investing?

June 11, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Personal No Comments →

Current YTD Return: -$1220

Wow. This is giving me ulcers. For the first time in my investing career (yea yea I know it’s only a year. Leave me alone!), I lost my portfolio value four straight days in a row! And it’s no small change. I’ve lost over $2500 now. *Throws up* My personal gut instinct says hold it. Market ALWAYS comes back. However, given how heavily invested I am in the oil related industries, that may not be the case. I’ll wait it out for the week and determine if I should cut my losses while I can or not. Any investing help you can give me is appreciated! At this pace I can’t keep my investing blog going because my portfolio will be worth nothing.

“Patience is virtue” Is it?

Useful Investing Resources For People Like Me

June 10, 2008 By: Hiro Category: Informative, Sites 1 Comment →

Current YTD Return: -$430

Here are some of the great sites/shows I take advantage of for my learnings:

1) Morningstar.com - I love their front page. It easily shows the market status by different segments. A quick snapshot of most active trades, biggest losers and biggest winners. I use this site everyday for the front page.

2) CNNMoney.com - I love their stock quotes. Easy to search, easy to read, various information associated with the stocks. You can also check where the market is going by looking at the futures before the opening bell.

3) Mad Money on CNBC - I love watching Jim Cramer and his energy. He really has some great insight and I use him to discover investing options. He has various sections like “Lightning Round” and “Are You Diversified”. He is insane though. Who eats SPAM raw because his prior stock he recommended sucked? Only a madman..

4) Motley Fool - Good compilation of articles that readers can vote. You can find articles that you wouldn’t find elsewhere. (more…)
